The past few days have been completely filled with education and educating for most of the TPS Photography crew.
Cathy took Amanda along with her to the Professional Photographers of South Carolina annual state convention where she taught several classes on extreme sports photography and extreme lighting, which she utilizes in lots of our senior portraits and "sportraits."
Meanwhile, I traveled to an awesome little town called Eden, NC (which is like a time capsule...even still has an operational drive-in movie theater and individually-owned, drive-in restaurants with car hops) for the Professional Photographers of North Carolina Winter Seminar.
One of the things that separates TPS from many other studios is our commitment to continuing education. We attend (as teachers and students) many events per year...always pushing for something better for you - our clients.
A few years ago, we began creating furniture product photography for local, national, and international brands. This past fall, we were very excited to be called upon by Ralph Lauren Home, which is actually produced right here in Morganton, NC. In the past, the RL Home line had always been photographed by a high-volume furniture photography company, but we were ecstatic when they took notice of what we were creating for other brands such as Kelly Wearstler, Kate Spade NY, EJ Victor, etc. We had the pleasure of working with the Ralph Lauren art director, Quy, who flew down from NYC to be on-set for the creation of the images. Each piece at Ralph Lauren Home has its own "personality," and Quy and his staff want each piece's uniqueness to be highlighted. Luckily, they liked what we produced. We are slated to photograph the spring line of Ralph Lauren Home next month - and we're super pumped to see the outcome of our second go-round with them.
Known by most in Charger Country as "Big Poppy," Cash is always one of the first ones to greet us when we arrive at the school for any kind of portraits. Usually we haven't gotten very far into setup when he pops his head around the corner and tells us, "Good Morning, guys!"
Every year there are one or two kids at each school that really stand out to us...those who are genuinely kind and those who are just plain fun to be around. Cash is one of those for us this year at Crest.
It was an honor to be able to do his Cap & Gown portrait a couple of weeks ago. He kept messaging us, wondering when we were going to put his picture up on Facebook (with a signed release, we put up the school photos we make on our TPS Photography page). We're proud of Cash, and excited to see him graduate in June, but it won't be the same next year at CHS without Cash!
In our next installment of photos for Work In Burke, we visited Oak Hill Iron and watched some very skilled blacksmiths and artisans created works of art out of iron and wood. Oak Hill Iron and Wood has two locations: the workshop in Oak Hill and a storefront in downtown Morganton. Founded by Dean Curfman, the company creates beautiful works of iron and wooden art by utilizing traditional blacksmithing methods that have been around for hundreds of years. We got the pleasure of photographing and interviewing Dave, a young blacksmith who works at the Oak Hill workshop. Check out some of the photos from our shoot and visit their website here: https://oakhilliron.com/
Sara and Josh had the most beautiful fall wedding at First Baptist Church in Morganton, NC last October. The most special thing about sharing her journey with her is that I got to photograph TWO sisters in one year: Sara's sister Catherine in the spring (go WCU cats!) and Sara's wedding in the fall. Their family is so lovely, warm, welcoming, and kind and it was truly a pleasure to be their wedding photographer. Her wedding was decorated in hues of dark green and purple, with a fashionably chic and modern feel. Sara's dress had a Gatsby feel with a modern twist, while she carried a classic bouquet of garden roses and dahlias (created by Garden Gate Downtown floral shop). Josh and "the boys" looked very dapper and suave, wearing classic and sleek black tuxedos and bow ties. Check out how beautifully Sara's vision turned out through some of my favorite photos of her wedding day!
Sara and Josh's wedding in Morganton, NC at First Baptist Church
Sara and Josh got married at a beautiful fall wedding during October of 2017 at First Baptist Church in Morganton, NC. They had a lovely reception at the Old Armory Building, decorating with hues of forest green and wine. Thank you for choosing TPS Photography for your wedding day; we had such a wonderful time sharing your wedding journey with you, Sara and Josh! Best and warmest wishes to you both for a long and happy marriage!
